There is no better example of modern Indian cuisine in Bristol than Myristica. Just opposite the Old Vic and in the heart of the city the food is adventurous, diverse and the setting elegant. As a favourite for pre or after theatre guests Myristica attracts customers looking for Indian cuisine cooked with style and ingenuity using subtle spices and delicate aromas. The menu is diverse and falrly short - because each dish is cooked to order in the open kitchen - making Myristica as far as you could ever get to the 'corner curry house'. The Cookery School teaches the art of Indian cooking with regular classes and the chefs are available for in house or outside functions

Learn the secrets of Indian cookery at Myristica

After two years of serving highly acclaimed Indian food in its King Street restaurant Myristica is ready to pass on the secrets of its success with the launch of a new cookery school.

Under the expert guidance of head chef Bhaskar Pillai, Indian food fans can learn the art of cooking classic starters, breads, curries and desserts. Students will not only learn how to cook a three-course feast, but they’ll be able to eat it too!

Starting with the essential basics of identifying and preparing herbs, spices and marinades, the students will then learn to make two classic starters –shish kebabs and vegetable pakoras which they can eat hot from the tandoor and fryer.

Chef will then demonstrate the art of making two of Myristica’s most popular curries – the classic Chicken Tikka Masala and the delicious Prawn Chettinad – along with a side dish of taka dahl. While the curries are cooking, the students will try their hand at making authentic naan bread which they will bake in the tandoor, and will be richly rewarded for their efforts as they sit down and enjoy the main courses with complementary drinks.

The course will have a perfectly sweet ending with the creation of chocolate samosa; one of Myristica’s favourite desserts.

The course costs £50 per person (or £80 per couple) which covers tuition, ingredients, soft drinks, wine or beer with the meal and a goodie bag containing a starting pack of spices, recipe cards and vouchers.

Classes are on Saturdays and guests should allow up to three hours. Classes can also be booked midweek. Pre-booking is essential. All inquiries to Amit Lakhani at Myristica on 0117 927 2277.
